LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Friday it had acquired outside back Aiden McFadden via transfer from Atlanta United FC of Major League Soccer and signed McFadden to a multi-year contract. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

McFadden joined LouCity on loan earlier this season and has made 14 appearances for the club so far this season. The 25-year-old ranks among team leaders in dribbles completed per 90 minutes (1.27) and successful open-play crosses (8), and has contributed two goals and one assist, making him one of the 11 City players who have been involved in at least three goals this year.

“Louisville feels like home,” said McFadden. “I’m grateful to now make that official. This place has helped me tremendously these past few months, and it’s difficult to put into words how appreciative I am to this organization. I love it here, and I’m excited to continue going to work with this group.”

“Aiden embodies the type of person and player that we want to represent this club,” said LouCity Head Coach Danny Cruz. “I have watched him continue to grow here every single day and have been proud of how he has integrated with the group. He is a humble person who leaves everything on the field every time he steps on it, and I am looking forward to continuing to watch him grow here at this club.”

Analysis

McFadden’s arrival on a permanent deal with LouCity adds another strong two-way piece to the club’s squad, with the re-signing of Amadou Dia to a new contract earlier this week giving depth at its wingback position to go with Jansen Wilson and Jake Morris as options on the two flanks.

The 25-year-old has previously shown his eye for goal in the Championship during stints with Atlanta United 2 and Memphis 901 FC, including a remarkable 2021 season in Atlanta in which he recorded a career-high eight goals. As LouCity pursues a historic third USL Championship title, McFadden can be a key piece to the puzzle.
