Birmingham Legion FC’s Stefano Pinho earns Player of the Week honors for two-goal performance against Orange County

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 21 of the 2024 regular season on Tuesday, with Birmingham Legion FC forward Stefano Pinho voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after he recorded a two-goal performance in his side’s 3-0 victory against Orange County SC at Protective Stadium on Saturday night.

An offseason arrival with Legion in February, the well-traveled Brazilian veteran is currently the side’s scoring leader with five goals in the league and nine in all competitions this season. Against Orange County, he opened the scoring six minutes into the second half with a superb volleyed finished from eight yards out, capitalizing on a cutback cross from Dawson McCartney.

Pinho added his second in the 89th minute, arriving late at the far post to put home a first-time finish from the left side of the penalty area by Tyler Pasher. The brace was the fourth of his career in the Championship, while he also completed 15 of 18 passes and notched a pair of chances created and won 8 of 14 duels.

“I’m just always trying to be in the right place at the right time,” said Pinho. “I said to Dawson before the goal that when he has the ball just cross it and I'll get to it with my movement. I was happy to be able to get to it first before the defender and get a good shot.”

Pinho earned 33 percent of the ballot to claim the award. Charleston Battery midfielder Aaron Molloy and Oakland Roots SC’s Johnny Rodriguez finished tied for second on 22 percent with Molloy recording a pair of assists and six chances created in two appearances and Rodriguez notching a goal and assist in Oakland’s 2-1 victory on the road against Miami FC on Saturday night.

The Championship’s Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship.
